Our Home at Marcopper
Our house at Marcopper was much more than the place where our family lived. It was the center of my daily life on Marinduque—a familiar and welcoming place to return to after school, swimming, golfing, or exploring the island.
Every part of the property seemed to offer another possibility. The bedrooms and den became places for games, music, drawing, school projects, and long conversations. The driveway, rooftop, garden, bodega, and surrounding yard became extensions of the house, providing space to experiment, invent, collect things, and allow imagination to take over. It was a home that always seemed full of activity.
Looking back, I remember more than the physical rooms. I remember the feeling of safety, freedom, and belonging that the house provided. It was where family life and friendship came together, where ordinary days became adventures, and where so many of the ideas and shared jokes recorded in my journals began. The house was not simply where we lived during our years at Marcopper—it was the heart of that chapter of my life and one of the places that made Marinduque truly feel like home.
